Student Support Services
What we do:
As interventionists at MCES, we provide students with strategies and skills that assist them with their academic, social, and emotional needs. We monitor student academic progress through assessments, FACTS use, teacher grades and standardized test scores. As students mature, their difficulties can effect their social and emotional well-being. We provide support and a safe environment to express their concerns. Communication with parents is an absolute must to ensure the success of our students. Parents know their children best and are an excellent resource. Academics don't stop when the school day ends but continues at home. Student grades, progress, accommodations, disabilities, and personal concerns are kept confidential. We enjoy seeing our students grow and mature into successful people. How exciting it is that we get to help prepare them for the next stages in life. |
Meet our team:
Mrs. Holly Yaeger Intervention and Student Services, St. Michael Campus [email protected] Prior to taking the Intervention and Student Support position, I was 1st grade teacher for 15 years at SMS/MCES. I am a graduate of Western Michigan University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree. I also earned a Master’s Degree from Marygrove College in 2006. As a St. Mary parishioner, I have a firm belief in Catholic education. My daughter attends MCES-St. John Campus and my step-son attends SMCC. I am at the St. Michael Campus on Tuesday, Wednesday mornings, and Thursdays. Mrs. Krissy Chesney Intervention and Student Services, St. Mary Campus Grades 3-5 [email protected] Mr. Dave Skidmore Intervention and Student Services, St. Mary Campus Grades 6-8 [email protected] Hello. My name is David Skidmore and I’m excited to be joining the MCES community. I’m a father of three (two boys and a girl). I have lived downriver my entire life, graduating from Southgate Anderson, and raising my children in Riverview, where we’ve attended St. Cyprian’s Catholic Church. Through the years, my kids and I have been involved in CYO sports at both St. Pius, and St. Joe’s of Trenton. I attended Wayne State University, where I earned a BA in mathematics, and a Masters of Education in mathematics. For the past 29 years, I’ve taught students mathematics in the Roseville public school system at both the junior high and high school level. I really enjoyed my career in Roseville, but always knew I wanted to teach in a faith-filled, Catholic setting. In my spare time, I enjoy running, golfing, reading, and attending sporting events. The core of education is based on developing and nurturing relationships. I look forward to building new relationships with my students, their parents, and my peers. |

Why do we see Mrs. Shafer's name listed as a teacher for my student?
To allow Mrs. Shafer the ability to monitor the academic progress of students within the middle school model. She appears as a "homeroom" in period cc because the AOD PowerSchool framework limits our ability to title her otherwise.
