ART (5th Hour)
DUE FRIDAY, JUNE 1, END OF CLASS-100 pt. project. Students will create a project of choice that contains at least one Element of Art we've studied this quarter. Students must also write a well-developed that explains the element(s) in the project. (See link below for the assignment sheet)

Thursday, May 31-Work on, possibly finish, project.
Friday, June 1 - 30 minute class due to Field Day schedule. Write the paragraph portion of 100 pt. project.

WRITING (7th Hour)
Listen to Love That Dog by Sharon Creech. Study and imitate the poems mentioned in the book.
Advice Letter to upcoming Fifth graders- "How to Survive Mrs. McDonald's Writing Class." Due Friday, June 1, end of class. Please compose your final copy on a separate sheet of paper and leave inside your Writing folder.
Write "sticker stories" (if time)

Design and color One-Pager for the novel Stargirl.
Write friendly letters to St. Mary homebound parishioners
Due Friday, May 4 - Stargirl and Leo Greeting Card. Observe someone, without them knowing, for 15 minutes. Based on their actions, decide what kind of greeting card that person needs. Materials for making the cards will be available in class.
Due Friday, April 27 - Write a well developed paragraph that tells the story of your first name. How did your parents choose your name? Students will have time in class to complete the writing, but may need to "interview" parents for the "story" behind the child's name. (All drafts to be left in the students' writing folders.)
Monday, April 23 - Contrast a basic paragraph versus an elaborate paragraph
Tuesday, April 24 - Construct 10 well developed sentences
Wednesday, April 25 - Read and discuss an example of a Name Story paragraph
Thursday, April 26 - Sentence imitation
Friday, April 27 - Sentence imitation. Story of Your Name paragraph DUE at the end of class. Please leave it in your writing folder."Give Me a Part of Speech" Word Game
Writing begins with words; therefore we will immerse ourselves in WORDS for the first two weeks. We will play the game Balderdash and listen to Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli.
